The Qualcomm Story

Always looking to take the next bold step, Qualcomm was birthed in 1985 by Irwin M. Jacobs and six co-founders thanks to its early research on wireless cell phone technology.

Qualcomm’s introduction into wireless technology started with the introduction of 2G technology and it has expanded to become one of the largest electronic semiconductor distributors.

With a vision of turning the world into a global village connected by the best technological innovations, they continue to implement ground-breaking changes to the technologies they roll out.

Qualcomm currently employs around 45,000 workers across 11 states in the United States and is active in more than 30 countries worldwide.

Currently, it has rolled out the latest standard for telecommunication with its 5G technology taking speed and efficiency of communication to new heights.

Recruitment Process

Working at Qualcomm is always a dream come true so every graduate and intern already has their eyes set on positions at the organization. Qualcomm’s selection criteria are thorough as they do not just seek the most talented individuals but those with thought processes that resonate with what they do.

To apply for roles in the company, applicants are required to create application profiles that help them open applications and track processing ones. Applicants can generally register for as many roles as possible.

Selected graduate or intern resumes are forwarded to the hiring manager who selects the best candidates for the next round of interviews.

The interview process at Qualcomm ranges from virtual/phone interviews to on-site interviews. Interview formats for graduate or intern candidates vary depending on the roles being applied for.

Applicants are offered employment roles two weeks after the interviews and candidates are offered a timeline to expect offers. A role at Qualcomm opens graduates and interns up to a world of next-level technology that welcomes diversity and values the contribution everyone brings to the table.

Controversies

Qualcomm has had its fair share of controversial situations. One of the more notable ones was its infamous feud with the fellow tech giant, Apple.

Modern apple chips were purchased from Qualcomm. Qualcomm charged Apple for using the patent technology of the chip and a separate fee for the chip itself. Apple disagreed with the separate fees and accused Qualcomm of being manipulative.

The two companies came to a standstill and both companies were involved in a multi-billion dollar legal battle.

Although an aspect of this dispute was settled with an out-of-court agreement, Qualcomm still looks to reopen the case on one of its patents being declared invalid.
