Pepsico’s Story

PepsiCo was once operating alone as a stand-alone soda drink manufacturer. The Pepsi drink was developed by a North Carolina pharmacist and businessman, Caleb Bradham. He trademarked the name Pepsi-Cola in 1898 and four years later he founded the company. The company went through war and it was damaging its financial stability, causing Bradham to declare bankruptcy.

Years later the company trademark and its Pepsi recipe were bought by Craven Holding Corporation and ended up being merged with another company (Loft, Inc.)  in the early 1940s.

PepsiCo was founded in 1965 when the company merged with Frito-Lay, Inc. At the same time, PepsiCo was listed on New York Stock Exchange. After that, Pepsi's line products expanded significantly to this day. It launched the infamous Dorito and Miranda in 1966. During the same period of time, PepsiCo also began to export its product to other countries.

PepsiCo is now headquartered in North Carolina, United States. The company now owns 23 brands that sold out for over $1 billion. Some popular brands from PepsiCo are including Mountain Dew, Lays, 7 Up, Lipton Teas, Aquafina, Cheetos, Fritos, Sierra Mist, and many more.

Culture and Vibes

PepsiCo manufactures food and beverage, therefore, long hours of working and a hefty load of tasks are something you should be prepared for. Many former and current employees testified that despite PepsiCo being a fun place to begin your career, it was common knowledge that the task in the manufacturing industry will be tough. Every division will have its own challenge and difficulties. Some roles definitely will require physical durability.  PepsiCo is a big corporation, it will provide you with an essential experience to collaborate with diverse co-workers in a global setting of professionalism.

Recruitment Process

PepsiCo is clear about its hiring process. The company has three stages of the hiring process, starting with applying online and joining its talent pool system, assessment, and hiring/offering stage. PepsiCo urged you to create an account on its system. After the screening done by HR, interview processes with the hiring manager or group discussion are mostly done virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions.

PepsiCo said that there are some roles that require another assessment program to complete the process. The assessment is designed to give the company additional data about your technical skill, leadership value, critical experiences, and many more.

Internship applications are also made online. PepsiCo is regularly updating any information about the opening on the website. However, PepsiCo also regularly held a campus event where students have the opportunity to apply directly to the recruiter team.

The entire recruitment process may vary for each applicant. Some applicants stated that the process took two or four weeks on average.

During the pandemic, PepsiCo partnered with more than 60 other stakeholders (Feeding America, The U.S. Department of Agriculture, The Global FoodBanking Network, and many more) to distribute nutritious meals to people at risk.

Through Food for Good, PepsiCo commits to strengthening global food security. The company will invest $100 million until 2030 for the Zero Hunger Pledge. PepsiCo also aims to increase nutritious food access for 50 million people by 2030.

Controversies

In 2019, PepsiCo was under attack after its India branch sued four Gujarat farmers who planted a variety of potatoes—which PepsiCo used to produce Lays chips—without consent. The case caused a strong reaction in India, it was the first time a giant international corporation sued small farmers. However, it was known that back then, it seemed like PepsiCo filed the case with inaccurate knowledge of how agriculture law works in India. It turned out to be, that India allows farmers to cultivate and sell patent-protected crops, including seeds.
