5.15 AM

Up, in the shower, then some YouTube while I have brekky.

6.15 AM

Grab my bag, kiss the (very sleepy) gf goodbye, then out the door for the quick walk to the train.

7.00 AM

Get to the city, meet up with the others going to the forum and catch a taxi to the airport.

8.00 AM

Get to the airport, time for a quick coffee before we board.

10.45 AM

Arrive in Melbourne, grab a taxi and head to the ANZ Bank Corporate Office, host of the forum this year.

11.15 AM

Get to the ANZ building with some time to spare. Don’t mind if we do grab a drink and sit on the café balcony on the ground floor, overlooking the Yarra River.

12.15 PM

Time to head to the meeting room for the supplied lunch and mingle with representatives from the Code Compliance Monitoring Committee, Australian Banking Association, and banks including the Big 4, AMP, Citibank, Macquarie Bank, Rabobank, and more.

1.15 PM

Time to take a seat for the start of the forum presentations.

2.00 PM

Just listened to the opening address from Shayne Elliot, who talked about the ways ANZ are addressing the new Code, and some of the impacts the findings of the Royal Commission will have on the finance industry.

4.00 PM

The two main panels for the day done. Heard from the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman, Consumer Action Law Centre, First Nations Foundation and the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, and learned about their views on the new Code and how banks can strive to meet and exceed community and business expectations in the future.

5.00 PM

An industry Q&A to end Day One of the forum, but only the beginning of the night. Time to check into the hotel, get my room in order, and briefly reflect on the days' discussions before attending the forum dinner.

9.30 PM

Back at the hotel after some good food and better conversations, and it’s definitely time for bed. Keen for Day Two tomorrow: a packed morning in-store, before heading back home to Adelaide in the afternoon.
